The question of decision-making in conditions of lack of information and other uncertainties have existed since people engaged in commercial activities. Although an active discussion of risk management problems began after the publication of F. Knight’s book in 1921. He proposed hypotheses of the economic nature of risks and formulated ways of dealing with risks. At the same time, risk management as an independent domain of management has been going on for several decades. But for integrated management systems, it has been actively used for about 10 years, demonstrating not entirely unambiguous results.

Risk is the ratio of the probability of adverse (risk) situations occurring and their possible consequences. It is always correlated with the activity’s objective: the realization of risk leads to a deviation of its actual results from the planned ones. It is often said that if we don’t manage risks, they will begin to manage us. Risk assessment methods are varied. A detailed, although not exhaustive, list of them presented in the IEC 31010:2019 international standard and its Russian analogue GOST R IEC 31010—2021. This paper is considered some efficient risk assessment methods widely used in business practice.

The events of the twenties of this century forced machine-building enterprises to change the supply chains of purchased components and materials, and Russian Railways had to adjust the investment program in 2022, excluding from it some types of traction train with a high proportion of foreign components — their supplies were stopped due to the sanctions imposed. Nevertheless, Russia has traditional markets of the CIS and the EAEU, where high-quality Russian products have been successfully operating for a long time: mainline and shunting locomotives, metro trains, diesel locomotives and electric locomotives, passenger cars. In addition, there are markets historically close to Russia: Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary.

Regular internal auditing of QMS of an organization is a mandatory requirement of both the general ISO 9001 standard and the ISO 29001 industry standard for quality management systems in petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas industries. According to these standards, this requirement must be implemented from the perspective of risk-based thinking, which must be applied to all QMS processes. This article is briefly considered the main types of direct and related risks that arise during the internal auditing process.
